PTO: The proof of the power of Parents Engaging Collaboratively
In far too many schools parents are not included in the critical work aligned with vision, mission, and values. They are sometimes overlooked as a critical vehicle to drive forward the school's goals to achieve great things for all children. There is an attitude of, "their only parents, what can they know?" We don't have that attitude at Omar D. Blair Charter School. While we know that teachers are the most important in school factor when it comes to driving scholar achievement, we acknowledge that beyond their time with us, scholars are powerfully influenced and encouraged to achieve by parents and guardians that were their first teachers! Parents and guardians matter! ODB needs you! Essential to the achievement of all that we hope to be for and with our children is a strong group of parents and guardians (Invested Families) that will lead the charge in demanding and helping to deliver excellence for every scholar at ODB. We cannot achieve otherwise. Our PTO provides unique opportunities for parents to do that! From assisting in classrooms, chaperoning dances, putting on special events like Reading Night with the Broncos, our End of Year Carnival, coaching one of our athletic teams, or serving on academic advisory committees, PTO makes a powerful difference in ODB! Thank you for sharing in this great work! #ParentStrong #PTOROCKS Vernon Jones Jr. Executive Director (Proud ODB Parent) Kristen Lee K-5 Principal Courtney Torres 6-8 Principal |
